Bruce Lee meets Soldier on The Way of the Dragon

Bruce Lee meets Soldier on The Way of the Dragon

This is a very human and personal story told by John Young. In 1972, John Young was a Scottish soldier serving in the Black Watch of the British Army stationed in Hong Kong.

As a very keen martial arts student, one off-duty evening he stopped a bar fight between an innocent photographer targetted by drunk sailors. That forged a friendship and they subsequently trained together. The photographer knew Chuck Norris and one day they were invited to spend a day at the Golden Harvest studios on the set of The Way of the Dragon, Bruce Lee’s directorial debut.

On the day that John Young visited the set, Bruce Lee did not act in any of the scenes instead he witnessed Lee as a film maker rather than a martial arts actor. He describes going into the studios, and watching the action unfold before him, take after take, scene after scene.
